Statement on the passing of Republican Media Icon, Greg Stevens

Alexandria, VA: Greg Stevens, one of the leading Republican media strategists in America, and the founder of the media firm, Stevens Reed Curcio & Potholm, died of cancer on Monday, surrounded by family at his home in Maine.

"Greg was an incredible life force. He was brilliant. Courageous. Passionate. And no one had more integrity or character than Greg did. We've lost our great friend, mentor and partner. But his spirit and inspiration will be with us forever," said his partners, Rick Reed, Paul Curcio and Erik Potholm, in a joint statement.

Stevens, 58, was an award-winning producer with over thirty years' experience in politics, public affairs and journalism. During his career, Stevens created and produced advertising for some of America's most prominent political leaders.

In 2000, Greg directed the advertising and served as a top advisor to U.S. Senator John McCain's presidential campaign that helped catapult the Arizona senator into the national limelight with primary wins in New Hampshire and Michigan.

During his illustrious career, Stevens produced advertising for numerous national and state leaders including: Senator George Voinovich (OH), Senator Mike DeWine (OH), Senator Susan Collins (ME), Senator Gordon Smith (OR), Senator Peter Fitzgerald (IL), Senator Mitch McConnell (KY), Governor John Rowland (CT), Governor Craig Benson (NH), Governor Bob Taft (OH) and Congressman Tom Davis (VA).

In 1988, Stevens produced one of the most famous and effective political ads of all time: the Dukakis 'Tank' ad for the George H.W. Bush presidential campaign.

Earlier in his career, Greg served as Chief of Staff to Governor Thomas H. Kean of New Jersey, where he began his career as a newspaper reporter. He was a graduate of the University of Maine and served as a member of the University's Board of Visitors.

Stevens is survived by his wife, Judi, and their three sons, Clark, Brent and Luke. The family has established the 'Greg Stevens Scholarship Fund' at the University of Maine in his honor and memory. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent there.

The funeral will be in Maine on Saturday and a memorial service in his honor will be held in Alexandria, Virginia, in the near future.
