Swift Boat Veterans for Truth "Ravaged"

One of the most significant developments of the presidential election of 2004 was the advertising by the Swift Boat Veterans of Truth. SRCP’s advertising for the Swift Boat Veterans began in August 2004 in just a few states, but almost immediately became a huge national story that continued through Election Day. The Swift Boat Veterans ran seven ads that challenged John Kerry’s version of his record in the Vietnam War and criticized his Senate testimony in which he accused his fellow soldiers of war crimes. Research conducted both during and after the campaign concluded that the Swift Boat Veterans’ advertising was by far the most recalled of all 527 groups and had more impact on the presidential race than virtually all the other 527s combined, despite airing in fewer than 10 states.
